In terms of atmosphere, Clay Studio might have every other Roast Around the World café beat. This place feels like a crumbling ruin in the middle of the jungle, jam packed with terra-cotta figures, wall sculptures, and beautiful green foliage. It is a quiet, relaxing retreat away from the bustling Chiang Mai streets around the old city. I actually had a hard time getting any work done there because I was a little too relaxed, entranced by the beautiful scenery around me.
I tried a few different things at Clay Studio during our two visits there, including a Thai Iced Coffee, Iced Americano, and Iced Matcha Latte. The Matcha Latte was definitely the star of the show, probably the best I have had in Thailand. Sweet and refreshing, it was hard to keep myself from drinking it too fast. The Americano I probably wouldn’t recommend, Chiang Mai has a ton of great Italian coffee elsewhere and this one was fairly average, but the Thai Iced Coffee was much better and a good choice if you aren’t into tea.
I highly recommend following up a visit here with a massage at Lila Thai Massage, just about a 5 minute walk down the road. Their rate is quite reasonable and their massages are strong - the café/massage afternoon combo is one of my favorite things about Thailand. For 10 bucks and three hours of your time you can achieve a level of relaxation and calmness that you would be hard pressed to find elsewhere.
