This leg of our trip has seen probably the largest gap between two quality cups of coffee, from Mysore all the way to Kuala Lumpur. Thailand of course has excellent Thai iced coffee, but that doesn't quite scratch the same itch as filter coffee. VCR, thankfully, has made the wait well worth it and might actually own the made-up title of "Best Coffee I've Had On the Trip So Far".
We've come here two days in a row now and surely we will be back the next two. Offering many ways to brew such as Aeropress, Kalita Wave and Hario drip, I've tried it all and been seriously impressed. Their Columbian beans are dark and rich with flavor that packs a punch, while my personal favorite Ethiopian variety is smooth, complex and fruity. I don't really get that snobby and up my own ass about coffee beans, but for the first time in a long time I've really felt a huge surge in quality.
If the coffee wasn't enough, the food here has also been outstanding. Avocado toast has been the perfect way to start my day and Jenny is obsessed with the Turkish eggs. Malaysia in general seems to be on point with their food and drink game, something they have a reputation for, but I wasn't sure was actually the case. I hope we continue to find places like VCR as we head north to Penang and then east to Indonesia.
